Camille Pissarro Boulevard Montmarte,Winter Morning

Artagraph

Between February and April 1897, at the age of 66, Camille Pissarro painted 14 canvasses of Boulevard Montmartre from his room at the Grand Hotel de Russie on Rue Druot in Paris. The paintings depict different weather conditions, and different times of the day, over winter and spring and are Pissarro's most important contribution to the impressionist movement.

Pissarro, whose failing eyesight meant that it was difficult to continue painting outdoors, was probably inspired to paint the series after seeing the commercial success of Monet's Haystacks series.

The best known of the 14 works are Boulevard Montmartre at Night and Boulevard Montmartre: Mardi Gras.

Seven members of the series are found in the world's top galleries, including London's National Gallery, the Met in New York and the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. The other seven are found in private collections.

Boulevard Montmartre (Spring Morning) was sold for £19.9 million in 2014 and making it Pissarro's most expensive work.

This is a stunning reprint Artagraph which reproduces the original artwork perfectly using a very sophisticated technique.the brush strokes and paint surfaces look just like the original. This technique is used in galleries and museums across the world to reproduce valuable artworks for display.

This painting is framed in a stunning frame typical of the period and suits the picture perfectly.
