This rug belongs to village and nomadic rugs from Iran, formerly Persia. This type of rug is knotted by hand in smaller towns and villages the region using designs passed down from generation to generation. Even nomads still knot Persian rugs in the open air. The rugs are knotted without a plan and completely from memory. They are characterized by classical ornaments, which are arranged in straight and geometrical patterns. Thanks to their cultural-traditional origin, these rugs have a unique character that embodies ancient Persia.

This is a fabulous example made around 1960. Pure wool with cotton warp. Fabulous rich red which has a soft mellow tone. Cream and blue / grey highlights.

Overall excellent condition for its age. Some wear as may be expected. A beautiful rug for instant country house style and a luxurious feel underfoot.
