John W Gough

In Worcestershire Burning the  stubble

A superb original watercolour painting by this competent artist.
We have a typical autumn scene set in the beautiful countryside of Worcestershire. The painting shows a field of stubble with the farmers burning off the remains of this year‘s harvest.

The smoke rises up across the fields into a cloudless sky. The two farmers can be seen at the edge of the field lighting the fire. A really well painted picture that conjures up the autumnal late summer feeling perfectly.

26 cm x 36 cm
Unframed painted on wove paper.

John painted from a very early age. Born in Abergavenny, Gwent, he was awarded an Honours Certificate from the Royal School of Art when he was six years old. After Technical College, he was apprenticed as a Commercial Artist at Gloucester, and attended Gloucester School of Art.

Moving to London, and working as a fashion illustrator and designer, he continued to paint, and studied under Claude Muncaster at his Summer Schools at Petworth. His work has been extensively exhibited in most of the main London Open Exhibitions, and he has had many one man shows, including several at the Fairfield Hall. His work has been toured nationally with the Arts Council of Great Britain.

An admirer of the great tradition of British watercolour painting of the nineteenth century, he now works principally in this medium, and finds much beautiful scenery and inspiration in the Shropshire countryside
