Henry Bacon watercolour “ He’ll come home"

A superb watercolour by the celebrated American artist Henry Bacon.

The scene shows two fisher folk conversing on a beach. The older lady intent on getting her point across to the younger lady which I assume is her daughter. The granddaughter plays further down the beach. You can almost hear the conversation so skilfully has the artist captured this scene.

Entitled “ He’ll come home “ we can assume the mother is comforting her daughter and telling her the man will return while the child waits patiently by the shore.

Painted in watercolours and in its original gold mount it has been carefully reframed in the 20th century.

Signed by the artist and dated 1883 lower left.

His oils are in many galleries and private collections around the world and sell for tens of thousands of pounds. This is a super opportunity to own a beautiful watercolour by the same hand.

Henry Bacon (8 October 1839 – 13 March 1912) was an American painter, author, illustrator, and translator. Before his formal training as an artist, he served as a soldier and war artist during the American Civil War, and was badly wounded in the Second Battle of Bull Run. He then studied in France, and became a member of the Pont-Aven School, painting genre subjects of French country life, many sold back in America. He first traveled to Egypt in 1897, and then developed an interest in Orientalist painting, soon spending his winters in the Middle East, dying in Cairo.
