Pair Large Vintage Indian Hand-Painted Carved Wood Folk Art Tigers

A wonderfully theatrical pair of large vintage Indian folk-art tigers, hand-carved from wood and vividly painted with black stripes over a rich ochre ground.

Both tigers have wonderfully fierce open mouths with individually carved teeth and tongues, staring eyes and raised front paws. Each figure stands on its own reddish-brown wooden base. They have enormous decorative presence and would look fabulous in an eclectic interior, shop display, bar or restaurant.

Each tiger measures approximately 45 cm long × 38 cm high × 16 cm wide.

Vintage condition with considerable character. There is rubbing, cracking, chipping and loss to the painted surface, together with knocks and age-related wear throughout. One raised paw appears to have some damage/loss. Please study all photographs carefully, as these form an important part of the description.

Sold together as a pair.
