19th Century Style French Turquoise Opaline Glass Table Lamp – Gilt & Enamel Portrait

A striking and highly decorative turquoise opaline glass table lamp, richly decorated with gilt foliage, colourful enamel flowers and a central classical portrait medallion.

The elegant pear-shaped glass body sits on an ornate cast metal base with scrolling decoration and has the strong appearance of a French Napoleon III / Second Empire piece.

The lamp has later been converted for electric use and is fitted with braided flex. The underside shows an aged cast metal base with attractive patination.

There is some rubbing, wear and loss to the gilt and painted decoration consistent with age, particularly around the floral and foliate detail. This gives the lamp a wonderfully authentic, slightly timeworn appearance.

A superb statement lamp for a period, eclectic or maximalist interior.
