A beautifully carved antique shell cameo depicting a classical female profile, set within a simple silver-coloured oval mount.

The carving is particularly attractive, with finely worked hair and good depth to the portrait. The reverse reveals the natural warm pink tones of the shell, while the traditional long pin fitting adds to its period character.

Likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this is a wonderfully wearable piece of antique jewellery. Cameos were historically worn by both men and women, and this one would look particularly striking worn on the lapel of a dark jacket, coat or waistcoat.

The metal mount is unmarked and has not been tested, so is described simply as silver-coloured metal.
