London SpringMuriel Jackson.1901/1978

Muriel Jackson was born in London on the 9th March 1901. She was educated at Ruskin House School Hampstead. She studied under Noel Rooke for wood engraving and F Ernest Jackson for tempera painting. From 1920 she specialised in painting gypsy caravans on Hamstead heath near her home in Well Walk. In later life she became a well know and respected wood engraver. This super painting was exhibited at the royal academy. Framed by the best framers in London James Bourlet and sons.

This is a charming portrait of a flower seller upon Hamstead Heath. It has a magical fairy tale quality and an almost cartoon like style with the car and horse and cart visible behind the railings in the background. The bird perched upon the tree branch gives it a Mary Poppins like feel. Painted in the 1920's on Windsor and Newton canvas.

Nice overall condition. The frame is an excellent quality frame from probably the best framers in London still making frames today.
