Chinese vintage ginger jar
A vintage Chinese hand-painted porcelain barrel tea or ginger jar with a pierced lid.
Originally used for transporting spices in the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC).
Became known as "ginger jars" when ginger became a major export to Europe in the late 18th century.
In China, these jars are called "guan," meaning "jar".
This jar features a hand-painted landscape with mountains and a pagoda.
Blue and white are the most common, but other variations like famille rose exist and this is a nice example.
This particular jar measures approximately 6 inches high and 4.25 inches wide.
Excellent condition with no chips or damage.
