Vintage Pair of Chinese Ceramic Sancai Temple Lions Foo Dogs.

A charming and whimsical pair of Chinese glazed pottery foo dogs. Raised on rectangular plinths, each carries a streaming ribbon in their open mouth and are highly animated, with bulging eyes and lolling tongues. A large magnolia blossom features prominently on their bodies. The male has a ball underfoot, the female a cub. The sculpted and carved shiwan pottery bodies have been richly glazed all over with a delightful palette of green, blue and yellow, reminiscent of majolica ware.

Excellent condition. Crazing to the glaze as may be expected for their age.
