Two 1800s Original PERCY THOMAS Etchings "Rescued from the Sea" and "saved "

Two original etchings from 1876 by Percy Thomas. Entitled Wrecked and Saved. Excellent condition unframed. Two very rare etchings representing a real incident on the shores of Littlehampton Sussex just along the coast from Hove.

Wrecked measures 11.7 x 7.9 cm  Saved measures 13.3cm x 9.5cm Two etchings on one sheet. Signed in the plate.

In good condition on handmade wove paper. Clear plate marks and crisp etchings.  Commisioned by Philip Gilbert Hamerton editor for the Portfolio and published by Seeley & Co London 1876.

The top etching shows the vessel running aground on a moonlight night. The Second shows the next morning as they await the tug to tow them to safety. 

Percy Thomas was James Whistlers first student.
