J Filmont ceramic sculpture of a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.
The appearance has a striking resemblance to a real Spaniel. The anatomy, but also the imitation of the coat are beautifully crafted . The eyes are made of glass and are fabulous, very life like.
J. Filmont is a studio that was best known for its animal sculptures. Founded in the Normadian city of Caen, around 1850. In 1920 this studio was taken over by ''Le Mesnil de Bavent''.
This sculpture is in a beautiful original condition, no damages and no restoration and was made between 1890 and 1900.
Some minor firing nibbles to the glaze around his paws and his back but remarkably good condition for his 100 years plus age.
All in all a superb and quite rare piece of pottery from this highly regarded pottery.
