Antique French Longwy Tile Japonisme Ebonised Plant Stand Table c.1900

Antique French Longwy Tile Japonisme Ebonised Plant Stand Table c.1900

A superb antique French ebonised wood plant stand or occasional table, inset with two genuine Longwy enamelled pottery tiles.

Dating from around 1900, the stand is designed in the fashionable Japonisme or Chinoiserie taste. It has an architectural carved wooden frame with delicate incised decoration, shaped supports and scroll feet.

The larger upper tile depicts a wonderfully eccentric exotic bird surrounded by colourful flowers, foliage and butterflies. The lower tile features a bird in flight among bamboo and rocks.

Both tiles are marked LONGWY and display the richly coloured, raised cloisonné-style enamelling and finely crackled ground for which the French pottery is renowned.

A highly decorative and unusual piece of antique furniture, ideal as a plant stand, lamp table or display table.

CONDITION:

The two Longwy tiles are in excellent antique condition.

The wooden stand is sturdy and displays beautifully. There are age-related marks, rubbing and losses to parts of the carved wooden frame around the upper edges, as clearly shown in the photographs. These are cosmetic and do not detract from the overall appearance or use of the piece.

Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
